Looks like Movida Communications won’t be shuttered after all.

APC Wireless, a Maryland company, purchased Movida on Friday, said Samuel Bahreini, APC’s chief operating officer.

"Movida is BACK and STRONGER than before!" its Web site declares.

Movida is a Kansas City wireless company seeking bankruptcy protection. The company began selling its own brand of wireless service a few years ago after arranging to use the Sprint Nextel network under a mobile virtual network operator, or MVNO, relationship.

Movida executives indicated they were winding down the operation in a bankruptcy filing earlier this month.

When they faced heightened competition and other obstacles, the Movida executives sought to renegotiate with Sprint. Sprint, according to Movida bankruptcy filings, was not open to the changes sought by its wholesale partner.

More details about the APC-Movida deal will be available later, Bahreini said.

For now, though, Bahreini said the focus will be on continuing to cater to Spanish-speaking consumers.

“Movida never went dark,” Bahreini said. “The subscriber base has not been affected. The user experience is the same and getting better.”
