Amazon.com Inc. said Sprint Nextel Corp. is no longer the U.S. wireless provider for its newest Kindle digital readers.
Amazon.com is now selling the 6-inch Kindle in the U.S. and internationally with wireless service from AT&T Inc., Amazon.com spokesman Drew Herdener said.
Yes it will take time to roll out 4G in iPCS territory but it is on the list, check the link below:

IPCS covers all the rural areas that Sprint did not want to invest when launching the Wireless network. So don't plan on seeing any 4G coverage in those areas anytime soon, if ever....
The issue here is AT&T's 3G footprint in relation to its data speeds.
That being said AT&T's 3G network foot print barely covers anything, its about the size of my Shoe lol, which i wear size 12. AT&T 3G covers mostly metro areas anyway.
But here is a FACT Sprint has 3x more 3G Coverage than AT&T!!
However, even though gsm may have faster data speeds, cdma is more scalable. Plus Sprint 4G network blows AT&T's 3G wannabe network out of the water.
***AND SPRINT IS DEPLOYING MORE 4G CELL SITES WITH WIMAX THAN AT&T IS DEPLOYING THIER OWN 3G... ** Just take a look at thier 4G site list, and every couple months, more cities are Addded!!! here's your sign lol

Troll you are right on a couple things but you are losing the big picture, here friend. Sprint was smart to go with WiMax because of its scalability, also, IT CAN BE UPGRADED TO LTE WITH A SIMPLE FIRMWARE (SOFTWARE) UPGRADE!

Why would the Troll want to find a new job when he makes 110k+ for sitting around doing nothing? The Troll has learned from the best (Hesse and his minions).
Common Sense makes no sense. He states the reason AT&T network is faster cuz no one is on it, and then states a sentence later that the reason it is slow is cuz it's overloaded. Fact is, AT&T 3g is much faster than Rev A. period.
Again, the Troll repeats his view that Sprint treats it's vendors like crap. Ask any vendor who knows the situation. They all hate working with Sprint. period!

Again, the Troll shows that he talks a big game, but really doesn't know what is going on at the company for which he works.
He has obviously figured out how to survive and not be laid off, even though he has no clue. He is one of those that is still employed because he cannot get a job elsewhere.
The reason that Amazon dropped Sprint with the Kindle? Because the new version is international. Sprint uses the CDMA technology (just like Verizon), which is in the US, Korea and a few other countries. The worldwide standard is GSM (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. use this). In order for the device to work Internationally, (and data rates to be competitive) it would need to be a GSM device. Is this good? No, but it is part of the deal.
As far as AT&T's 3G network, it is fast IF you can get coverage. It is not even a "real" 3G network. Also, the reason it is fast, is because no one is on it. iPhone users complain because they rarely get the high speeds due to small network footprint. Also, if you are in the NY area, your connection suffers because that area is overloaded by AT&T high speed users.

Sprint's relationship with vendors is one of the major reasons the company is failing. Clearwire, Apple, Motorola, Palm, now Amazon all hate working with Sprint. HATE HATE HATE. The Troll is sure others hate them too, but these are the most visible. So it's not surprising Amazon took the first opportunity it could to jump ship. It doesn't hurt that ATT has a faster network, despite what the previous poster mentions. Apple users are frustrated with call quality, not download speeds.

The Kindle is world wide and I'm sure they were using ATT abroad. I'll bet ATT made a deal with Amazon they couldn't refuse.
That's surprising, especially since AT&T's data network is reported to be sub-par and Sprint's is reported to be fast and dependable. That's why iPhone users have been frustrated with the AT&T network and can't wait for Apple to use Sprint or another carrier for iPhone apps. The best solution might be Sprint's ultra-fast 4G network. Although it needs to roll out to many more cities, AT&T and Verizon have no 4G cities.
Sprint is still working hard (or hardly working) to absorb the Alamosa, Northern PCS, and other affilliate regions they purchased after the 2005 merger. Absorbing iPCS can't begin until next year, and it will take a minimum of 2 to 3 years to happen. I would be all but certain that all of iPCS is an EVDO dead zone that will take millions of dollars to even get decent 3G working in it. Meanwhile, Sprint is rushing around trying to get major customers to not dump them as they try to upgrade regions they bought years ago to decent 3G EVDO.
