The Palm Pre marketing machine is cranking up at Best Buy.
The electronics retailer said today it expects to "sell out" of the widely anticipated Pre smartphone within a week of its debut on June 6.
Customers can purchase the Pre at Best Buy for $199, without a mail-in rebate. Elsewhere the Pre will retail for $299, though a $100 rebate knocks the final price to $199.
According to Bloomberg News, Best Buy will have a “limited supply” of the handsets, sold through Sprint Nextel for the first one or two months, merchandising director Scott Anderson said.
He declined to say how many phones stores will initially receive before they go on sale.
“Inventory is constrained, and Palm is making as many as they can,” Anderson said. “We are going to purchase and sell as many as we can.”
Sprint also will sell the Pre through RadioShack and Wal-Mart stores.
